Unwinding Anxiety By: Judson Brewer Book Review

As someone who battles anxiety on a daily, this book resonated with me. It delves deeply into the complexities of anxiety further examining the science behind it. Dr. Brewer did an elegant job at examining mindfulness and how increased self-awareness can help us identify and ultimately conquer the bad habits that form anxiety. I think it’s important to note that sometimes treating anxiety involves more than Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It can be debilitating for some people. That being said, I like that it highlighted that anxiety can be managed without the help of medications. Proper mindfulness techniques and the changing of habits can work amazingly in battling anxiety. The book was filled with user friendly step-by-step guidance on how to deal with anxiety and it was greatly appreciated. This was truly a self-help book and is great enrichment for anyone struggling with anxiety.

Key points and/or interesting aspect I took from the book:

  1. Bad habits are fuel for anxiety which in turn hold us back from greatness.

  2. Sometimes anxiety is learned.

  3. Overcoming our thoughts is groundbreaking in being who we want to be.
