Chatter: The Voice in Our Head, Why it Matters, and How to Harness It By: Ethan Kross Book Review
This book was insightful and scientist Dr. Ethan Kross did a magnificent job at story telling about self-talk. His expertise in experimental psychology and neuroscience narrated real life examples of what the chatter in our head is, its pros and its cons. He went into great details talking about his own experience with self-talk and how it became overwhelming. He also examined the science and the biological purpose of self-talk giving us a glimpse of the studies he’s lead.
Our inner voice is something we all hear. Many times, the voice is helpful, gives us guidance and self-reflection. On the other end, sometimes this voice is also self-sabotaging, overwhelming and even detrimental.
The book explored right ways to communicate with ourselves because as noted in the book,” if that Debbie Downer inside us isn’t harnessed it takes control having the ability to potentially break us.”
Key points and/or interesting aspects I took from the book:
Having conversations with yourself, is normal!
That voice in our head has a purpose, a good one at that.
Negative thoughts can spiral out of control and break you.
